Ajena a la Moda: Corsé/Corsets

Well, here  I am on the terrace, wearing the prototype corset, with a rather long ruffle. I look a bit annoyed, but I wasn't. Actually I was trying not to laugh at the photographer, who had inadvertently sat on a damp cushion... As you can see, the corset does a fairly good job of masking the fact that I've gained about 5 kilos since I got the jeans - it was about 17 years ago.

These charming pieces are very figure flattering - and you can wear them either side out!

On the right, Gisela Gina has tried one on with her riding clothes - very untraditional Spanish. ¡Ole!

They have a canvas interfacing, about the same weight and stiffness as denim, and 4 (plastic) stays to keep them from crumpling up.

This one is made of 2 very traditional Spanish fabrics. The grey striped is usually used for (horse-back) riding habits, and the spotted is a Flamenco classic. Both are 50/50  cotton/poly mix.

As I don't  know  a  single  person who has  a lady's maid these days, I've put the laces  in the front,  so that you can get in and out  without assistance.

The second corset is made from vintage cotton with a rose print and black (synthetic) crepe embroidered with arabesques.

No, it's not as comfy as your pyjamas, but you can lace your corset as tightly or loosely as you like, so it's more comfortable than elastin - think tight jeans, but more elegant.

Both of the corsets above cost €85'-, as would a  similar one made to order.

The last corset shown here is not for sale, as it was made for Katie, of the 'WhatKatieWore' blog  in London  -

but I can make you one just like it!

It is made of wool tweed and orange and magenta spotty cotton.

Katie has decided to wear it backwards - I think her boyfriend Joe must have helped her.

On the right,  Stubbs is once again trying to help. She wanted to switch on the hall light as well.  I should probably have let her do it...

A corset similar to this one - using wool and/or silk - would cost €95'-.
